August 13 Report from the Reunion Committee

Quick status report on the Class of 1969 Reunion coming up in two weeks, and answers to some questions we’ve been receiving: we estimate our reunion mailings reached 95% of the class.

Turnout looks excellent, we expect attendance of around 150 for the Saturday night dinner dance. About half of the attendees are bringing a guest and half are coming solo. The Ports O’ Call Restaurant ballroom will accommodate 200, so if you haven’t yet registered there’s still room to join the party. The price is $89.

So far, we have classmates coming from Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and all over California.

As of today, at the Crowne Plaza LA Harbor Hotel you can still reserve a double for the discounted price of $109 if you ask for the “Rolling Hills High” group rate for August 28 and 29. Phone 310-521-8021. The two blocks of rooms we reserved at discounted prices at the Doubletree Hotel are sold out, but regular price rooms are still available there.

Drop James Allen an e-mail if you plan to join the Friday night pub crawl, jpallen1950@yahoo.com

For all the reunion details, visit the class web site at www.rhhs1969.org And yes, we really mean it -- you can wear jeans to any of the reunion events you want: the Friday night mixer or pub crawl, the Saturday night “beach party,” and the Sunday picnic! Dress code liberation, at last!

Progress Report from the Reunion Committee

The PVP School District has agreed to let the Class of 1969 take over Senior Park for our Sunday Picnic, August 30 of reunion weekend! We originally looked at a couple of parks in San Pedro, but the Lion’s Club race that day would have closed the streets, so we moved the venue. What better place to reminisce than our very own alma mater? The only catch: just like when we were in high school, there’s no smoking and no alcohol allowed on campus.

Watch your snail mail for your official reunion invitation, coming soon. It will have all the details, map and directions, and a mail-in registration order form for payments by check. We also want to make it easy for you to register online by credit card if you choose, and that function will be up and running shortly on the class web site. The price is $79, and if you can afford a little extra to help with the reunion costs, you can make a Supporter Contribution for $20 or a Sponsor Contribution for $50.

We’ve added a new feature to the 40th Reunion: Classic cars from the 60s! Vintage wheels will be on display the night of the big party at Ports O’ Call, Saturday August 29. If you have a classic car you’d like to bring, contact Tom Templeton at slowood@aol.com

Pam Gilkison is putting together the music playlist for the Saturday Night Dinner Dance at Ports O’ Call, August 29. Want to hear your favorite oldies from the 60s at the big party that night? Send suggestions to Pam at pgilkison@gmail.com

We are still accepting t-shirt designs for the official reunion t-shirt. Get creative around the Beach Party theme and submit your ideas by July 1. See details at www.rhhs1969.org

Thanks to everyone who has checked in to confirm your own address and provide contact information on other classmates. If you haven’t confirmed your info in the past four months, please e-mail me at ccameron@cocpa.org so we know we are mailing your reunion invitation to the right place. Guessing takes extra postage!

April 13 Progress Report from the Reunion Committee

The Save the Date postcard went out April 2 and 3, by e-mail to over 200 names with verified e-mail addresses, by snail mail to nearly 200 with only a mailing address, and about 120 addresses that we THINK are those of our classmates (generated by our search efforts but not yet confirmed). Altogether, we sent over 500 postcards and we believe we reached 80% of the class!

If you have not received your reunion postcard, or if you have not recently confirmed your contact information, let me know at ccameron at cocpa dot org (substitute the correct symbols for the words) so we can get you in the loop and mark your data as confirmed.

The search team continues its diligent work, and classmates’ names are coming off the Lost List weekly.

Nancy West Johnson continues to update the class web site at www.rhhs1969.org as reunion details become available. There are some excellent discounts on hotel rooms posted on the site. Soon we’ll provide a link from the class web site to a page where you can register and pay for the reunion online (basic registration: $79).

Plans are in the works to send the main reunion invitation mailing in May. It will include a return envelope for mailing in your registration payment, if you choose. Our goal is to reach 90% of the class with the invitation mailing.

Unfinished business: we haven't settled on a location for the Sunday picnic, August 30. This will be the wrap-up event for the reunion. Possibilities are Point Fermin Park or Joan Milke Flores Park, both in San Pedro.

Memory Book Volunteers and Ideas Needed!

We are creating our own custom reunion memory book to be available after the event in both a hardbound book and a DVD. A bio questionnaire will go out soon and be posted here, on the web site, and on the Yahoo!Group. We also need you to send any photos of your self, your family, and especially life in 1969 to be included in the book.

Help Wanted
Reporter(s)
Historian and/or copywriter
Graphic Artist(s)

Post a comment with your ideas and what you'd like to help with or send an e-mail to Nancy West Johnson.

Contribute to the Reunion Music Mix!

We are compiling our own playlist for the 40th Reunion to take us back to the 60s and create a nostalgic atmosphere for the "Beach" themed dinner-dance. You are invited to nominate your favorite songs from the early 60s through the summer of 1969.

Post your suggestions here or send them to Pam Gilkison, our music coordinator.

It's all about Communication!

Welcome to the Class of 1969's newest way to reach out...our very own blog!

The reunion committee will post news and information here as well as on our Yahoo!Group and our web site so we can be sure to reach classmates everywhere.

Got a question? Post it a comment and we'll be sure to check it out!
